Lancaster Eagle-Gazette, Wednesday, November 15, 20065A: es Mil www.lancastereaglegazette.com Charles Eveland Daniel A. Clark Si Charles B. Eveland, 78, of Somerset, died at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at Heartland-Fairfield Care Center.

Charles was born July 15. 1928. in Daniel A. Clark, 84, passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at Mount Carmel Medical Center.

Daniel was born March 23, 1922, in Junction City to the late Sylvester A. and Mary Catherine Looking Back 30 YEARS AGO Jonathan Kozol, internationally-known author, was a guest speaker at Ohio University Lancaster Campus on the topic of illiteracy in America and its relation to the homeless problem. 40 YEARS AGO Amanda-Clearcreek Board of Education requested that the Fairfield County Board of Elections hold a special vote in December for an additional five-year, five mill levy. 10 YEARS AGO Millersport Elementary School second grade students placed a time capsule in the school's new addition which was scheduled to be opened in the year 2046. 20 YEARS AGO A fire caused by an overheated wall heat sensor near a fireplace was a possible cause for a fire at an Elder Lane home near Lithopolis which caused $1,500 damage.

Crooksville, the son of the late Basil and Naoma (Veyon) Eveland. He was employed by Ray-O-Vac in Lancaster and Essex Wire in Zanesville, was an Army Veteran and a member of Somerset Grange. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, whom he married Nov. 4, 1949, Mary Lou (Thomas) Eveland; three sons, Donald (Brenda) Eveland of Lancaster, Monte (Jewel) Eveland of Somerset and James (Cheryl) Eveland of Crooksville; one daughter, Beverly (Paul) Pickett of Indiana; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Edith Jackson of Rittman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Donna Sue Eveland; two brothers, Robert and Floyd Eveland; and a sister, Thelma Head.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset where services will be at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor Ron Grubb officiating. Burial will be in Crooksville Cemetery. Somerset American Legion Post 58 will provide military honors.

(Gnsby) Clark. He was a founding member of St. Mark Church, life member of the Baltimore VFW and a member of American Legion Post 11. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and served two and a half years in Europe.

Daniel retired after 40 years from Con-Rail as a train dispatcher. Daniel bowled on the Monday senior league. He has gone to heaven but as a special request from his wife, she asked turn to build a bowling alley so they and all their friends can bowl free. Survivors include his wife, Josephine (Ours) Clark, of 65 years; children, Danielle L. Clark and Debra L.

(James) Justice both of Lancaster, David A. (Sharon) Clark of Dallas, Dale R. (Terri) Clark of Clermont, and Dennis P. (Debbie) Clark of Lancaster; grandchildren, Dan (Carolyn) Hillyard, Misti (Kevin) Beach, Jimmy Justus Tracy (Keith) Arledge, Angie (Jason) Mover, Ashley Clark, Doug Clark, Jennifer Clark and B.J. Clark; four stepgrand-children; and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Dunn of Lancaster; four sister-in-laws; many nieces and nephews; and special neighbors, Don and Libby Shaffer.

He is preceded in death by parents; brothers, Thomas, Mike, Francis and Paul; and sister, Louise Porterfield. A Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mark Church with Father Ronald L. Arter as celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail. Friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sheridan Funeral Home where a vigil service will be at 7 p.m. The family would like to give a special thank you to Emergency Service at the Fairfield Medical Center, MidOhio Ambulance and also to Mount Carmel East Hospital.

Leota Bontrager Leota M. Bontrager, 85, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at Fairfield Medical Center. She was born Nov. 2, 1921, to the late Emanuel and Anna E.

(Kil-barger) Krile in Sugar Grove. She was a member of St. Mark Church and Olivedale Senior Center. Leota worked for 25 years at Essex Wire then retired from Fairfield Medical Center housekeeping department. She is survived by daughters, Marie (Ronald) Moneypenny and Barbara (Terry) Grimm, both of Lancaster; son, Robert (Pamela) Bontrager of Lancaster; brothers, Carl Krile and Leonard Krile, both of Sugar Grove; sister, Agnes Sheets of Sugar Grove; grandchildren, Michael, Anthony, Nicole, Jason, Courtney and Scott; and four great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Earl, Ralph and Louis; and sister, Mary Van Buren. Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Saint Mark Church with Father Ronald L. Arter as celebrant. Burial will follow in St.

Mary Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sheridan Funeral Home where a vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Church.

He went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at Fairfield Medical Center. Jake fought physical ailments for two and a Joseph Ungaro PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Joseph Ungaro, a former managing editor of The Providence Evening Bulletin whose question to President Nixon at an editors meeting elicited his not a crook" reply, died Sunday. He was 76.

At an annual convention of the Associated Press Managing Editors organization in 1973, Ungaro asked Nixon whether he had accurately reported his income taxes. Nixon's famous declaration came after he had gone on to answer a subsequent question about the Watergate scandaL At the end of that reply, he doubled back to Ungaro's question, saying: "People have got to know whether or not their president is a crook. Well, I'm not a crook." Matthew Fillip Leanderson KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) -Matthew Fillip "Fil" Leanderson, who rowed on the 1952 Olympic bronze medal-winning team, died Nov. 2.

He was 75. Leanderson died at a hospice in a Seattle suburb, according to the Husky Crew Web site. He was forward stroke on the Washington team that won the bronze medal for four-oared shells with coxswain at the Olympic Games in Helsinki He coached at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, then returned to Washington as freshman crew coach in 1956 and took over as head coach in 1959. He left the Huskies in 1967 and coached rowing at Western Washington from 1977-93. half years.

He was a wonderful father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He was a Navy veteran and volunteered his time to anyone who ever needed a helping hand. He is survived by his loving companion of 21 years, Cynthia Smith; sister, Linda (Mark) Ervin; three daughters, Lennie (Cory) Weaver, Angela (Travas) Michel and Elizabeth Lockhart; our grandchildren, Katy and CJ Weaver, Kaley and Hanna Michel; nephews, Jamie and Trevor Converse; niece, Kendra Converse; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, James Ervin; mother, Lucille M. (McClelland) Ervin; and nephew, Christoper Byron.

Memorial service will be at noon Dec. 2, 2006, at 6226 Lancaster-Kirkersville RoadState Route 158. In lieu of flowers, contributions may go toward final expenses.
