Early in the 1890s some stalwart people of Baltimore saw the need of organizing a church of the United Brethren in Christ and by 1894 this project was under way. The Baptist Church, located on the site of the present building, was leased for a period of IS years and services began.

Both Sunday school and church were organized in July 1895. Charter members were Rev. A.J. Wagner, Ella B. Wagner, Bessie Wagner, Rev.

L.H. Montgomery, Caroline Montgomery, Alice Montgomery, Rev. W.G. Mauk, Mary E. Mauk, Rev.

William J. Davis, Kate Davis, Effie Snider, Alice R. Snider, Wagner, E.C. Willison, Jennie Willison, Josephine Willison, Vida Albright, P. Rauch, Minnie E.

Rauch, Ida Thomen, Marian Brandt, Noah Wagner, Claressa Wagner, William Ritter and Clara Ritter. In time the property and the Baptist Church were sold to the United Brethren congregation for $750. Under the leadership of John Blauser, the board of trustees started excavation in 1910 for the present building. Most of the labor was done by the men of the church. The women worked equally as hard.
