"They're (the talks) over for today, and there wasn't much movement." said member of the executive board of Local 1112. The spokesman, who declined to be identified, said negotiators for striking auto workers and the giant automaker would continue to meet daily until a settlement was reached. The bargaining was scheduled to get underway again today at 9a.m. Earlier in ihe day, pickets blocked some salaried workers from entering the strikebound plants which produce Chevrolet Vegas and van trucks. A union spokesman said about dozen workers were stopped in what he called a misunderstanding.

A Trumbull County sheriff's deputy told picketers they could not interfere with salaried workers. The picketers represent about 7,800 hourly wage earners at the assembly plants. The strike began last Friday. The walkout has forced layoff about 2,800 workers at the adjacent Fisher Body fabrication plant which supplies sheetmetal and other parts to the assembly lines. Before Monday's talks, Local 1112 President Marlin Ford said he was not optimistic about an earl settlement.

Major issues, remaining to be settled include senior employes' rights to shift preferences, a formula for determining the number of employes to be kept on hand to replace absent assembly line workers, production standards and distribution overtime, Ford said. Howard Metzenbaum, D-Ohio, says he is questioning Treasury Secretary William E. Simon's current Middle East trip to promote investment in the United States by oil-rich nations in the area.

"Should we not reassess our own position on what foreigners may or may not own in our country?" he asked in a Senate speech Monday. "Or at a minimum, should we not require all publicly-owned corporations to list the true identity of all stockholders owning more than 5 per cent of each class of its securities?" Metzenbaum claimed that while other nations have taken steps to limit foreign ownership, "our treasury secretary is soliciting buyers for our own assets." He also suggested that the United States consider man datory limits on oil imports to cut the flow or dollars to fie Middle East. MONEY COLLECTOR DOVER, Del.
