At Cleveland an appeal was made today to all citizens in the southern part of Ohio, the states of Kentucky and Virginia who possess unuseable automobiles, to immediately contact their nearest wrecking yard and scrap their old war production. A decrease, of 7,159 tons was noted in July for the area. The appeal was made by Edgar J.

Arnstine, District Chief, Automobile Salvage Section, War Production Board, who said the inventories of the automobile graveyards in the area were so seriously depleted that many of the yards may have to close down. "This cannot be allowed to happen," said Mr. Arnstine, "for yards are a valuable source of scrap iron and steel so desperately needed for war production. "The yards in this area are working on the WPB 60-day program, which simply means that the entire contents of the yards are disposed of every 60 days or less. They are, for the most part, doing a fine job in keeping up with their end of the program, however, their inventories have fallen off so badly that it is impossible for them to cut and prepare as many cars as should be normally be prepared.

"This serious situation," Mr. Anstine continued, "is due to the fact that many people are, laboring under the delusion these old jaloppies are worth hugh sums of money. "This, of course, is not true. Prices range from $7.50 to $15 per car. The dealers can't stay in business paying more, after handling and transportation costs are deducted." HURRY!
