Frank Wright entertained with a prettily arranged noon dinner Sunday at her home, 212 Washington avenue in honor of her husband who left on Monday for Bucyrus, Ohio, to accept a new position, and also Mrs. Miller, aged mother of Mr. Abe Miller of near Carroll. The guests were Mr. and Mrs.

Adam 1 Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Miller, daughter Ethel son. Frank of near Carroll, Mrs. Miller, and the host and hostess and family.

Music and a pleasant social time were enjoyed during the day. 0 0 0 Birthday Dinner for Mrs. Catharine Brandt. Honoring Mrs. Catharine Brandt, who celebrated her seventy-ninth birthday anniversary Sunday, her daughter, Mrs.

Taylor Huber, tained with a lovely noon dinner at her beautiful country home north of the city. The pretty color scheme of red and white was carried out in the attractive decorations throughout the rooms, where a delighful social time was enjoyed throughout the day. The guests included the four generations, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Mrs. Brandt, and were Mr. and Mrs.

Luther Brandt 'daughters Misses Lelah, Forrest and Lucile Brandt, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph O'Gara, daughters Mary Jane, Isabelle and Julia, Mr. and Mrs. John Bauman and daughter Margaret, Mr.

and Mrs. Charles Brandt of Columbus, Mr. and Mrs. G. A.

Sterling and daughter Betty Jane and Mr. and Mrs. Asher Gundy. Mrs. Brandt was indeed happy on this occasion, surrounded by the members of her family, and all enjoyed a very pleasant time together.

0 Will Be Honored at Social Event. Misses Edith and Lela Williamson of Anderson, who are the guests. of their uncle, Rev. John Williamson, will be honored at a pleasant social event to be given this evening at the home of Miss Shorey. Several other pretty informal affairs have been given in their honor since their arrival in Lancaster.

W. C. A. will hold their Association Rally Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. J.

PERSHING MAY ATTACK AT Believed to Be Preparing For Drive Against Enemy Line. Paris, Sept. prisoners captured by the Americans in the St. Mihiel salient are bitter in their denunciation of the Germans. They accuse the Germans of leaving them in the lurch.

Austrian officers de clare they were not warned of the American attack and that repeated requests for ammunition were ignored. The Germans, they add, gave their entire attention to extricating themselves from the salient. General Pershing is now believed Ito be preparing for 8 drive against the "Kriemhild" line, to which the Germans withdrew their shattered columns from the St. Mihiel salient. Along this front American forces are on the threshold of Germany.

The victory of General Pershing's men has had more than a merely local effect. German lines to the southeast have been weakened by the terrific blow dealt along the heights of the Meuse, while to northwest the Germans are forced to adapt themselves to the new menace which has taken from them the cornerstone of their positions to east of Verdun. RAILROAD NOTES Some Changes and Promotions in the Pennsy Freight House Force -Miss Marie Weiss Cor a Number of Years H. V. Cashier Promoted to K.

M. Office, Columbus. Miss Hazel Stoneburner resigned her place with the Bell telephone Co. to aogept a position as clerk in the freight office of the Pennsylvania R. Company.

Miss Mary Cooney has also, accepted a clerkship in the Pennsy Miss Cooney resigned as bookkeeper at Kresge's. Miss Marie. Weiss was promoted today from the position of Cashier in the Pennsylvania freight office to a more responsible position with the K. and M. at the Columbus office.

Miss Georgine Courtright, a clerk in the local freight office has been promoted to the cashiership vacated by Miss Weiss. E. E. Shaeffer, Pennsylvania operlator was promoted today to the position of extra agent on the road. He is now at Atlanta, Ohio, relieving the agent at that place while on his annual vacation.

W. W. Varney, train-master of the Pennsy, of Zanesville, was a business visitor in the city today. The Medical Examiner for the Pennsy Zanesville division formerly in the office of the agent at the freight house will hereafter 0c- cupy the ticket office of the on the south side of the Union station vacated since the two, roads consolidated. SPANISH CLASS To Assist Teachers in Normal School Work to Be Organized in High School Wednesday Evening at 7:30 O'Clock.

A class in Spanish will be organized by the Extension Department of Ohio University at the Lancaster High School Wednesday at 7:30 p. m. All teachers and others interested are cordially invited to attend. There is no registration fee connected with "the work because it is intended primarily to assist teachers in their Normal Schol work. WSS.

RESIGN POSITIONS. Messrs. Glenn Camp and G. E. Hedges have resigned their positions at the Ford Garage and departed this morning at 9:40 o'clock for Detroit, where they will accept positions in the Henry Ford Ship Yards.

Thursday evening, Sept. 12th, the Live Wire Class of the Dumontville M. E. Sunday School met and was highly entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

John Mondhank north of the city. The evening was spent in contests and games, an excellent variety of which had been prepared by the thoughtful hostess. A literary program was rendered, following which a delightful luncheon was served. Those present were and Mrs. Sylvester Fisher, Mr.

Shaner and family. The event was arranged in compliment to Sergt. Noise of Company who is here on a visit en route to Camp Lewis, where he will be a military instructor. 0 Enjoyable Surprise at Repass Home. Last evening a party of friends of Mr.

and Mrs. W. E. Repass assembled at their home, 129 East Fifth avenue, and tendered them a delightful surprise prior to their leaving the latter part of the month for their new home in the Capital City, where Mr. Repass has secured a fine position in the office of the Pennsylvania Railroad Lines.

The guests came at the supper hour with well filled baskets and the surprise was a complete one. After enjoying the delicious supper the evening was spent in a delightful social way. In remembrance of the occasion Mrs. Repass was presented with a beautiful Haviland china dish from the guests of the evening, who were Mr. and Mrs.

L. D. Thomas, daughter Amelia and son Harry, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Rockey and family, Mr.

and Mrs. Burns Schryver and children, Mr. and Mrs. George Jeffries and daughter and Mr. and Mrs.

T. A. Miller, also Mrs. William Scully of Newark, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. Repass, for the past few weeks.

Mr. Repass will take up his new duties the first of next week, but wife and son will not join him until the latter part of the month. 000 Literary Society Meets at Graybill The East. Hillside Literary Society held its initial meeting at the home of Miss Eugenia Graybill on Monday evening, Sept. 16, 1918.

Ten members were present and the meeting, was very enjoyable. Montreal, Sept. members of the crew of the Portuguese steamer Leixues arrived at a Canadian port after being exposed to the weather for five days in an open boat.
